Very nice Karal,
I certainly know what purple passion is, and what it does. Unfortunately passion is only one of the side effects, and purple is a great color in the evening but not so attractive the morning after!
Nice stuff, I very much enjoyed it and felt somehow a party to it. Been there.

Its very easy to give up one thing only to move to another, unless you develop a good sense of self along the way. While one may not be as severe as another, I’d rather not rely on anything like that to get through life. It’s a learning process!

I thought by waiting until almost 21 that I wouldn’t have problems with the stuff. Now I know that was flawed and I might have even had problems if I had started later in life. This post of yours made that abundantly clear that it was certainly possible given family history.

I don’t know what purple passion is, but we used to make Purple Jesus juice when I was in the Army. We mixed everything we had into it. Must have been some brandy or wine that gave it the color. “Jesus” because one sip and you’d say, “Good Lord, what the hell is this?”

Some one asked me once what it’s like to be a drunk. I responded, “Do your remember the ’80s? They said, “Yes.” I said, “I don’t”

Sober since April 11, 1992. One day at a time.

It’s so easy to turn off the GPS of good sense after the good feeling starts to hit and it’s so easy to navigate the same course over and over and say you’ll learn the lesson next time

What a great entry, and this line in particular really gets to the truth of a lot of what happens when drinking.
